It’s apple season, y’all!
The apple festivals and apple picking are in full swing around here, and it always gets me to thinking about when I was a young girl.
My Nanny and Grandaddy had apple trees in their yard. I specifically remember the one in their front yard.
We ate Sunday dinner at their house every Sunday after church. While the adults played cards, we’d play outside or inside, depending on the day. Those are some sweet memories!
I have a memory of my Grandaddy picking up apples off the ground. Sure, he’d pick them off the tree, too, but not before he checked the ones on the ground first.
He’d pick them up and look them over. If they were rotten or wormy, he’d throw those aside. But some of the ones he’d pick up were still good. Maybe they had a bad spot or two, but there was still something good left in them. He’d put those in a basket for Nanny to make something good out of.
Y’all, there’s a lesson to be learned here.
Think about your life for a minute.
Have you ever felt like spoiled fruit? Have you ever done things that made you feel rotten and wormy? Have you ever felt like you weren’t good enough or that you’d made too many mistakes?
I have.
But here’s the thing!
God didn’t pick me up, look me over, and throw me to the side.
No! He picked me up, looked at me, and said, “This one may have some rotten places in it, but it’s still good. We can still make something good out of this one!”
Praise the Lord!
Y’all, that’s the goodness of God!
He sees our flaws, our mistakes, and all those rotten places we’d rather nobody know about. And yet, He still loves us. He doesn’t toss us aside because we’re not perfect. Instead, He offers us grace, forgiveness, and the opportunity to become something better through Him.
Psalm 17:8 says, “Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings.” (NIV)
Isn’t that a beautiful reminder of His love for us?
So, the next time you see an apple that’s fallen from a tree, remember that just because it’s fallen doesn’t mean it’s worthless.
And remember this:
“You are always the apple of His eye, even when you feel like spoiled fruit!”
